  1. Mentor-Mentee System

Mentor-Mentee scheme would set up a healthy relationship between the students and the faculty. Mentoring takes place in the context and setting of universal human values. It gets the student to explore oneself and allows one to experience the joy of learning, stand up to peer pressure, take decisions with courage, be aware of relationships, be sensitive to others, understand the role of money in life, and feeling of prosperity. Human values as enshrined in our constitution like justice, liberty, equality, fraternity, human dignity and the unity and integrity of the Nation can also be part of this discussion.

The Student mentoring in Jayam College of Engineering and Technology is defined as a one-to-one relationship between a student (Mentee) and the mentor that occurs over an extended period of time. The mentor provides consistent support, guidance and help to a student to provide them with a positive role model.

The goal of student mentoring is to help all students involved in the mentoring program to gain the skills and confidence to be responsible for their own futures and develop to their full academic and personal potential.

The main objectives of Mentor- Mentee system is for continuous academic monitoring of students for technical as well as soft skill enhancement which results in improved employability. Continuous monitoring of academic performance of students including their attendance and performance in internal exams as well as providing a support system to guide and motivate the students and also to identify and solve personal and health related problems of the students

The Mentor–Mentee Scheme was introduced in the year 2016, with a view to advance the educational and personal growth of students. Each mentor teacher establishes a strong and caring bond with his/her (mentee) students. Every student has his own strengths and weaknesses. Mentor is a guardian to his students and he/she knows and understands his students personally. The institute has a Mentor- Mentee Program for all the students First, Second, Third and Final Year. Under this initiative, one faculty is appointed for every 15 to 20 students as their Mentor. The role of the appointed faculty is to continuously monitor the academic performance such as daily attendance of these 15-20 students.

Parents are regularly updated about the performance of their ward by his/her mentor and thus they are also involved in this process. Mentor acknowledges and addresses the problems faced by the students like poor academic performance, problems related to infrastructural facilities, and personal problems. The Effective communication with the students helps their respective mentors to understand their strengths and weaknesses. Therefore they can mentor them in the right direction.

All these activities undertaken by the mentor like call records to the parents, meetings, minutes of meetings, student performance etc. are recorded in a booklet which is maintained by each and every Mentor.
